Most-watched soccer games in the USA: May 6-12, 2024

The numbers are in for the most-watched soccer games in the USA for May 6-12, 2024, and to little surprise, the Liga MX Clausura quarterfinals took center stage.

The top spot on this list went to Guadalajara's showdown with Toluca, with Chivas playing out a goalless draw on Saturday live on Univision to the crowd of 1,127,000 average viewers. This result was enough to see the Liga MX powerhouse move on to the semifinals, where they face bitter rivals Club America for a spot in the final.

The second spot on this list went to another Liga MX tie on Univision, with Cruz Azul's 2-2 draw with Pumas UNAM taking this honor. Just over one million average viewers – 1,003,000, to be precise – tuned in to the TelevisaUnivision-owned television network as La Máquina secured progression to the penultimate stage thanks to a 4-2 aggregate victory.

And wrapping up the top three is a Premier League showdown. However, in a week that saw English giants Manchester United and Arsenal battle it out, Chelsea surprisingly beat that heavyweight tie thanks to their dramatic 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest. Nicolas Jackson scored the decisive goal in this fixture as 898,000 average viewers caught what was a thrilling 90 minutes of soccer on NBC.

What are this week's must-watch games?

Club America vs. Guadalajara live this Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on Univisión, TUDN, and ViX

El Súper Clásico returns this weekend, with Liga MX's two most successful teams Club America and Guadalajara facing off in the second leg of their Clausura semifinal showdown. Estadio Azteca will be the venue for this clash as the Eagles look to make good use of the home advantage in their race to make the final. The first leg ended in a goalless draw in a game plagued by profligacy. The hosts won the 2023 Apertura and will want to add the 2024 Clausura to their cabinet. However, expect a tough test from Chivas in Saturday's highly-anticipated tie.

Premier League title race ends this weekend with Arsenal vs. Everton, Man City vs. West Ham in the final round live on Peacock

This season's exciting Premier League title race will come to an end this weekend in the final round of 2023-24. Two points separate the two teams, with reigning champions Manchester City holding the slight advantage. The Cityzens will host West Ham in their final game live on Peacock and NBC as Haaland and Co. simply need to win to secure a historic fourth consecutive English top-flight crown.

The Gunners, meanwhile, will have to beat Everton on the final day live on Peacock and USA Network and hope for a slip-up from Guardiola's men to lift the Premier League title for the first time in two decades. Fortunately, Arteta's men have been one of the most in-form teams in 2024 and should overcome the Toffees. Both games will simultaneously kick off at 11 a.m. ET.

Galatasaray vs. Fenerbahce live this Sunday at 12 p.m. ET on beIN Sports

Istanbul powerhouses Galatasaray and Fenerbahce lock horns this Sunday in the latest edition of the Intercontinental Derby. With these two teams sitting top of the table, this fixture could decide this season's Super Lig title race. The hosts hold the top spot with a six-point lead over their rivals and simply need to avoid defeat to be crowned champions. However, this is the penultimate game of the campaign, meaning a win from Fenerbahce would take the Turkish top-flight title race to the last day. Catch the action live on beIN Sports and beIN Sports CONNECT.

Metz vs. PSG live this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET exclusively on beIN Sports

Kylian Mbappe will don the PSG shirt in Ligue 1 for the final time as the French sensation prepares to depart the Parc des Princes this summer for Real Madrid. The club's all-time leading scorer has confirmed his exit and will be looking to help his team finish the season with a bang following their disappointing 3-1 loss to Toulouse in their final home game of the campaign. Metz, meanwhile, are on a four-game losing streak and will want to rain on Mbappe's parade. Don't miss this clash.

Atalanta vs. Bayer Leverkusen live this Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network, Paramount+, and ViX

The UEFA Europa League final is finally here! Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen will lock horns this Wednesday at the Aviva Stadium as Xabi Alonso's men look to get their hands on title no.2 en route to a potential treble. The German side have already secured the Bundesliga title and could finish the top-flight season undefeated if they avoid a loss against Augsburg this Saturday. Atalalanta, meanwhile, recently lost the Coppa Italia final and will not want to let the Europa League title slip from their hands after unforgettably beating Liverpool in the quarterfinals. Don't miss this exciting showdown.

Premier League permutations: Breakdown of the title race, European spots, and relegation battle ahead of final round

The Premier League season is finally set to conclude this weekend! Matchweek 38 of the 2023-24 campaign is scheduled for Sunday, with all 10 fixtures simultaneously kicking off at 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT/15:00 GMT).

And this could be one of the most exciting ends to a Premier League season in recent years. Not only will the title race go down to the wire, but the race to qualify for Europe and the relegation battle will also be decided on the final day.

However, not all of these races are as close as meets the eye. Here are the permutations ahead of the final round of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

The title race

Unfortunately for the Gunners, their fate is not completely in their hands. While a playoff cannot happen, Mikel Arteta's men can still be crowned champions for the first time since 2004 if they beat Everton and the Cityzens slip up at home to West Ham. Even a draw would suffice -- both teams would end with 89 points -- because Arsenal boast a superior goal difference (+1).

Arsenal, Everton, Manchester City, West Ham, English Premier League

As for Guardiola's men, they simply need to do one thing: beat the Hammers and they will win the Premier League for the fourth consecutive year, a feat no other club has managed.

The race for European soccer

The race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League is over. England's four representatives in next season's tournament will be Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Tottenham (63 points) are fifth in the table and can secure a fifth-place finish with a draw on the final day in their clash with the already-relegated Sheffield, which is expected. Spurs simply need to match or better Chelsea's result to finish fifth.

From sixth to eighth is where things get interesting. Here lies Chelsea (6th, 60 pts), Newcastle (7th, 57 pts), and Manchester United (8th, 57 pts).

Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, English Premier League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa Conference League

Chelsea can leapfrog Tottenham into fifth spot if they win their final game at home to Bournemouth and Spurs suffer defeat against Sheffield. Pochettino's men already boast a superior goal difference (+3) and would thus move past their London rivals. In order to secure a sixth-place finish, Palmer and Co. will need a point as Newcastle are only three points behind and boast a superior goal difference (+8).

Newcastle, meanwhile, travel to Brentford on the final day. In order to finish sixth, they will have to beat Brentford and hope Chelsea lose at home to Bournemouth. To secure a seventh-place finish, Eddie Howe's men would simply need to match Manchester United's result due to their vastly superior goal difference over the Red Devils (+24).

Manchester United, on the other hand, travel to Brighton in their final game and will have to beat the Seagulls and hope results elsewhere go their way. While Chelsea are mathematically

catchable, the Blues boast a vastly superior goal difference (+16) and are unlikely to finish behind Ten Hag's side even if they lose on the final day and Rashford and Co. win at the Amex.

However, Manchester United can leapfrog Newcastle and finish seventh if the Magpies drop points at Brentford and the Red Devils better that result. However, while a seventh-placed finish will likely mean UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, Ten Hag's men can enter the Europa League through the FA Cup.

This week in women's soccer, May 17, May 23, Liga F, NWSL, Women's Super League

The upcoming week is set to be a really busy one, as several European leagues come to an end over the next few days, and the title race is set to go down to the wire in one of the most popular leagues.

Here's all you need to know.

What to watch in women's soccer: May 17th to May 19th

NWSL

It is still early on but things are really getting interesting over in the NWSL. At the moment, there are two teams joint-tied for points at the top of the table: Kansas City Current and Orlando Pride. The Pride have been arguably the most in-form side over the past few rounds, and come into their Sunday match against Seattle Reign on a six-game winning streak in the NWSL. Meanwhile, the Current, who are on top of the table thanks to their slightly better goal difference, could extend their lead to three points (albeit for less than 24 hours) as they host a struggling Racing Louisville on Saturday.

WSL

Just as the Premier League title race will be going down to the final matchday, things are also quite intense over in the Women's Super League. At the moment, the contenders are Chelsea, who are aiming to successfully retain their title, and Manchester City, who will be aiming to be part of a clean sweep and ensure that both Manchester City's men's and women's teams clinch the league crown.

All games on the final day of the 2023-24 Women's Super League season will be taking place on Saturday, May 18th at 10 a.m. ET. The key ties to keep one's eyes on will surely be Aston Villa vs. Manchester City and Chelsea vs. Manchester United, which fans can livestream starting at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) on Paramount+. Meanwhile, although they are not in contention to win the WSL title, Arsenal will nonetheless be looking to finish as high as possible and potentially sneak into second spot when they host Brighton.

Serie A (Women)

Although the Scudetto has already been decided, with Roma successfully defending their title a few weeks ago, there are still some games to tune into, with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's games include Sassuolo vs Juventus, which will be live-streamed on DAZN USA for fans based in the United States at 9 am EST (6 am PST), while DAZN USA will also be live-streaming two games on Sunday starting with Pomigliano vs. Napoli at 6:30 a.m. ET followed by Roma vs. Fiorentina at 8:30 a.m. ET.

What to watch in women's soccer: May 20th to May 23rd

Frauen-Bundesliga

Monday, May 20th will be a very busy day for Frauen-Bundesliga fans as all of the final matches of the 2023/24 term will be taking place on that day. DAZN USA will be live streaming four of these games on Monday, including Bayer Leverkusen vs. Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim vs. Bayern Munich, Köln vs. Eintracht Frankfurt, and Wolfsburg vs. Essen.

What to stream on NWSL+: May 17 to May 19, 2024

The 2024 NWSL season is in full swing and that means plenty of more games for fans to tune into over the next few days.

Viewers in the United States plus other select countries around the world will once again be able to live stream several games via NWSL's in house streaming service, NWSL+.

NWSL+'s coverage of matchday ten starts on Friday, May 17th with a triple header. First up is Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns, which kicks off at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). In addition, North Carolina Courage will be taking on new side Utah Royals, with that game also commencing simultaneously at 8 p.m. ET. Friday's trio of matches concludes at 10:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. PT) with an all-California clash featuring Bay FC and San Diego Wave.

At the moment, both Kansas City Current and Orlando Pride are joint-tied for points at the top of the table, albeit the former sit in the top spot due to their slightly better goal difference. The Current have a chance to temporarily put a bit of distance between themselves and the Pride if they can pick up all three points against Racing Louisville. That match will take place on Saturday, May 18th at 9:30 p.m. ET and will be live-streamed on NWSL+.

On Sunday, NWSL+ will be covering more games, including Orlando Pride's match against Seattle Reign at 6 pm EST (3 pm PST). The Pride are on a six-game winning streak and will look to make it a lucky seventh to potentially leap-frog Kansas City into top spot.

MLS Match Day 15: TV & Streaming Schedules May 18, 2024

Another round of MLS games is coming up, and there could end up being some changes in the league standings depending on the outcomes of this weekend's ties.

Fans of Major League Soccer will have a very packed Saturday, as all games will be played on the same day - so they will surely want to block off pretty much most of the day to tune in to the various matches.

Here is all you need to know as Matchday 15 of the 2024 Major League Soccer season gets underway this weekend.

Broadcast and live-streaming info for MLS in the USA and in select countries

For fans in the United States, all games on Matchday 15 can be live-streamed via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

In addition, viewers in the United States can watch the Nashville vs. Atlanta United match on TV. That game kicks off at 1:45 p.m. ET (10:45 a.m. PT) and will be broadcast on FOX.

Spanish speakers looking to follow the same match on TV can check out Fox Deportes for audio commentary in their preferred language.

MLS Season Pass on Apple TV also provides live-streaming of Matchday 15's games for fans based in multiple other countries, including Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and more.

Top games to watch on Matchday 15 in Major League Soccer

Inter Miami vs DC United

Inter Miami come into their next match having dropped points during a frustrating scoreless stalemate against Orlando City, but are still on top of the table. However, Gerardo "Tata" Martino's side are only just leading the chasing pack by one point, meaning that they could find themselves sliding into second place if they fail to pick up all three points against upcoming opponents DC United. As for the visiting side, they presently sit in eighth place and have hit a rather inconsistent patch as of late, with just two wins from their last five MLS games.

Inter Miami, DC United, Major League Soccer, Broadcast Listings

New York City vs New York Red Bulls

It is set to be an all-New York derby as New York City welcome the New York Red Bulls this Saturday. Both sides come into this match off back to back wins in their last two games, and New York City will be hoping to finally win their first derby clash since 2022. Overall, they have won five of their last six games and will be full of confidence, but the Red Bulls have shown that they certainly have no problems firing in the goals when they are in great form. Notably, the visitors, who were crushed 6-2 by Inter Miami last month, have since bounced back with 4-2 and 4-1 wins over New England Revolution and DC United respectively, so this upcoming derby could end up being a real attacking spectacle.

Arsenal unveil new kit for the 2024-25 season but here's why the Gunners won't debut it in final EPL game vs. Everton

Arsenal have unveiled their new home jersey for the upcoming 2024-25 season and for the first time in 35 years, the shirt will feature the club's iconic cannon in place of its badge.

The cannon has featured on the Gunners' away shirts in recent seasons but now Adidas, the kit manufacturer, have decided to reintroduce it to the home jersey for the first time since 1989-90 to pay homage to the team's rich history.

The new kit will make its official debut in the Arsenal Women's final Women's Super League fixture of the season against Brighton this Saturday. However, the men's team will not wear this jersey the following day in their final Premier League game of the campaign.

The Gunners have opted against wearing the new shirt in Sunday's Premier League clash with Everton. The reason is simple: Arteta's men remain in the title race and could beat Manchester City to the crown on the final day if they beat the Toffees and Guardiola's men slip up against West Ham. As a result, Saka and Co. will don this season's home shirt this weekend. Read more…

Messi's record $20.4 million salary dwarfs entire MLS teams

Lionel Messi's record $20.45 million annual salary from Inter Miami makes him by far the best-paid player in Major League Soccer but also puts him ahead of the entire squads of 25 of the league's clubs, according to data released by the MLS Players Association on Thursday.

The players union regularly releases the full pay details of the entire league and while it was no surprise to see the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner at the top, the gulf with other players and indeed teams is striking.

Messi has a guaranteed compensation of $20,446,667 made up of a base salary of $12 million plus various bonuses.

The figures from the players' union do not include the huge income the Argentine World Cup winner receives in commercial deals, endorsements, and sponsorships from companies such as Adidas and Apple. Read more…

Kante returns from wilderness as Deschamps announces France Euro squad

World champion N'Golo Kante will make a surprise return to international football as France coach Didier Deschamps announced Thursday the 25 players that will make up the French squad at Euro 2024.

Kante left English side Chelsea last summer to join Saudi club Al Ittihad and has not represented France since June 2022.

"He played a full season (Kante struggled with injury during his time with Chelsea), albeit not in a European league, as he is in Saudi Arabia," said Deschamps on French TV channel TF1.

"He's back to full fitness. With his experience, I'm convinced that the French team will be stronger with N'Golo Kante." Read more…

Germany boss Nagelsmann ignores Hummels to stick with regulars for Euros

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann ignored the late claims of Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt when he named a largely unchanged squad for the 2024 Euros on Thursday.

2014 World Cup-winner Hummels and midfielder Brandt have been key figures in Dortmund's run to the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid, but Nagelsmann preferred to stick with the team which beat France and the Netherlands in March.

Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka was also left out of the hosts' 27-man squad -- it will be reduced to 26 after the June friendlies against Ukraine and Greece -- while his teammate Serge Gnabry was not considered because of injury. Read more…

Man City's Ederson out of Premier League climax and FA Cup final

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson will miss Sunday's concluding game of the Premier League season and next week's FA Cup final, the club announced Thursday.

The Brazilian was forced off with a facial injury during City's 2-0 win over Tottenham on Tuesday that left Pep Guardiola's men on the brink of an unprecedented fourth successive English top-flight title.

Scans have confirmed Ederson suffered a small fracture to the right eye socket following a collision with Cristian Romero. Read more…

Premier League in the US? FIFA weighs allowing overseas games

FIFA is to consider allowing domestic leagues to play matches overseas, opening the door to money-spinning English Premier League or Spanish La Liga clashes being staged in the United States, the Middle East or Asia.

Soccer's world governing body on Wednesday agreed to set up a 10-15 strong working group to examine the idea and make recommendations.

The Premier League and La Liga, with their vast global followings, have long mooted the idea of playing matches outside their home territories.

The new FIFA committee will "gather further information and issue recommendations to the Council regarding potential amendments to the FIFA Regulations Governing International Matches (FRGIM)", the body said in a statement. Read more…

Brazil to host 2027 Women's World Cup as Gaza overshadows FIFA meeting

The Women's World Cup will take place in South America for the first time after Brazil was chosen to host the 2027 edition at a FIFA congress Friday marked by debate about the war in Gaza.

After the success of Australia and New Zealand in 2023, which earned a record $570 million in commercial revenue, FIFA chose to continue its push to expand women's soccer to new continents.

Delegates meeting in Bangkok voted by 119 votes to 78 to send the 10th Women's World Cup to the land of samba football, which beat a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Read more…

Ten Hag warns England's Shaw doubtful for Euro 2024

England's Luke Shaw is a major doubt for Euro 2024 after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said the defender was struggling to be involved in the FA Cup final.

The 28-year-old left-back has only managed 15 appearances in an injury-blighted season, with his last game coming three months ago in a win at Luton. Shaw had been expected to return from his latest muscle problem in early May, but he is now unlikely to feature in the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25. Continue reading…

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri received a two-match Italian Cup suspension on Thursday after being shown a red card during his side's victory in this season's final.
